Essence Of Harris

I don’t usually write about events I have worked at - I just slap up some of the pictures I like and thats that. However, this Essence of Harris event was so beautiful I just had to share a bit more about it and the company themselves. Rona, my sister from another mister, planned this event and proved to everybody that she has got hella event management skills.

The first thing you noticed was the smell that took over the room and the cosy ‘hygge’ elements you were surrounded by. Class and elegance sprung to mind when you entered - following what Essence of Harris base their brand on. There were other local brands offering things to do such as gin tasting from the gorgeous St Andrews basted distillery Eden Mill , a mini nail bar from Glasgows best NailCo.. Not forgetting the cocktail masterclass and incredible nibbles from The Corinthian Club (if oysters, chocolate covered strawberries and free champagne don’t scream class I don’t know what will…)

If anyone is a candle fan I can’t recommend Essence of Harris enough - their products are so beautiful and there’s a slight pleasure in supporting family businesses who have worked their asses off to get to where they are now. They also offer wax melts, diffusers, bath and body lotions - all follow the scents of the Hebrides! Each candle is hand poured on the island Harris and are made with soy wax containing no gunk or yucky things added (way-hey)!

They have even created their own Harris Tweed tartan which reflects the colours of the Hebridean Isles - how lovely is that?!

Here are some of the pictures from this gorge evening…

Kilchurn Castle

Kilchurn Castle, Loch Awe, Argyle

Fair to say I have been pretty useless on the blog front recently… this was a trip James and I went on early November, I started writing about it late November, it is now January and I am finally back at it to try get it published…oops. In between college, work and the festive period I have had no time to focus on my website until now (kinda - I have work very soon and really should be doing more college work but oh well, here I am). This is a good excuse for me to get out and get some photos taken which I have been doing, just not so good at the writing and posting part but I will get there!

I have been wanting to go and visit this Castle for far far too long and we finally got the chance to venture out and see it. Fair to say she did not disappoint. Kilchurn Castle was about a 1hr 40min drive to get to from where we live - not as much annoyance for me than James since he is the only one who can drive at the moment… I just continue to be master of the tunes…

We did get a bit confused when we got there trying to figure out how to actually get over to the other side to have a nosey around - turns out theres a car park not too far from it and you just cross over some train tracks and wander over. I did prefer the pictures that I got facing the castle from the other side of the loch as the reflection from the water was amazing. At this time of year I definitely recommend getting some warm clothes, it was freeeeezing! I was lucky enough to have my new Montane jacket that I won in a Tiso competition the other week - its my new pride and joy- that worked a charm.

Most people will be aware of this Castle as it is probably one of the most photographed in Scotland (bar Eileen Donan) I totally understand why though because if you are a fan of those reflection photos - like me- this is the perfect place to nail one.

As you can probably tell from my photos I like to pretend James is a tap model so I get him to pose a lot more times than he would like.

Oh so pretty

Loch Awe at Dusk

Loch Awe at Dusk

Hello!

If you have had a look through some of my photos you will notice this face popping up quite a lot…

This, my friends, is my partner in crime and boyfriend, James (also known as Jahmes). I am forever pestering him to get in front of the camera and show off that natural smoulder of his. He acts like he doesn’t love it but the pictures say otherwise..! We both crave spending time outdoors and getting out to the wilderness as much as we can, therefore most of my ‘adventures’ are spent with him by my side.

I’ll be using this title for when we find time to do something outdoorsy and fun where I can get lots of snaps (which can prove to be pretty hard sometimes in between work/uni/college/his crazy American football training timetable etc.) The dream is to one day get a van and convert it so we can boost off to wherever whenever we get the chance! Until then we do what we can with what we’ve got.

We are huge fans of water sports such as SUP boarding (big ups to Saltbyrona for introducing this to us and letting us borrow equipment), kayaking, diving and love a hiking trip - preferably a bit of camping in there too. Since we are in Scotland we have to be prepared for whatever the weatherman throws at us so some trips need a bit of planning ahead if its going to be chucking it down outside - luckily for us Scots we are well adapted for the weather changing last minute. It is currently winter so most days are quite driech and dull but here’s hoping for some of those crisp winter sun occasions, probably my favourite kind of weather to photograph in.

If you are wanting to start getting out and doing some water sports one of my fave companies for buying gear is Two Bare Feet, they sell quality stuff for amazing prices so its definitely worth a look if you’re interested. Click right to scroll through these pics…

Camping is up there on my top 10 favourite things to do and its a great excuse to get out and put my camera to work. James and I have lots of plans to get away up North on some adventures - I will post all about and keep my blog updated on wherever we go and what we do.

Here are some pictures from when we went to Glen Coe in Summer. Keep in mind these are relatively old pictures but thought they would be well suited for my first post :)
