Loch Laggan

Hello hello,

I’ve been abandoning the blog… again…! Now that I have finished college for Summer and caught up with myself on the workload a bit I have some more time to get working on this again.

Summer in Scotland has been pretty questionable the last few weeks, I definitely feel like I am lacking that vitamin D. However, I was lucky enough to get 2 scorching days on my days off work this week and that of course meant I packed up the bags and headed for the Highlands. I am forever going on these last minute trips with no plans at all which has it positives and negatives but it always somehow works out. I tend to think no plan is the best plan (to a certain extent anyways). Wednesday around 1pm we headed off from Stirling with the plan to go to Lochgoilhead to stay in the holiday home which abruptly changed to going a bit further North to Glen Coe.

We have a cracking new tent from Vango so I am using any excuse to use it. Its the Beta 450 XL which is a great, spacious 3 man tent and has a large porch area (with windows!!) which is amazing for storing stuff and gives you a sheltered bit to chill out in. I can sometimes end up feeling a bit claustrophobic in some tents so that wee bit of extra space in this tent helps out massively and makes it much more comfortable to stay for longer periods in.

We tried to take the boards out on the lake we were camped out beside, but it was far too windy and there was almost no control of the boards so we decided to have a chill night with some good food and an uber early night with the aim of an uber early start to the next day.

Waking up around 7am the next morning I was eager to get on the SUP boards out so it was all systems go for packing everything up. We initially thought we could drive up to Arisaig and go to the amazing beaches around there since it was to be 25 degrees, however we were a bit tight for time so James had a look at google maps and found an absolute hidden gem. Loch Laggan which is in-between Spean Bridge and Newtonmore is somewhere I had never heard of before and, honestly, I was a bit dubious as I had my heart set on going to the beach but… this place was amazing.

We had the whole place to ourselves - bar a man with his tent way in the distance. It was a bit of a clamber to get to the sandy banks as there isn’t really a proper place to park up and it is separated by a river which you have to go through to get to the main area - which is easy enough as there are lots of shallow bits. The views you get are incredible and it was so nice to not have the place swarmed with people.

I was about to go in for a swim until we found a baby lamprey which put me off completely. They are basically like leeches but can grow pretty big. It might not have been one but it was still enough to out me off, I still have a fear of not knowing what’s beneath me in the water! Instead we stayed on the board and paddled around the Loch, the water was insanely flat so I was actually able to stand up on my crappy Groupon board. James always gets the better board since he can hardly even get away with sitting on the smaller one!

Anyways, here is a few more photos from Loch Laggan…

Thanks for reading!

Hello!

If you have had a look through some of my photos you will notice this face popping up quite a lot…

This, my friends, is my partner in crime and boyfriend, James (also known as Jahmes). I am forever pestering him to get in front of the camera and show off that natural smoulder of his. He acts like he doesn’t love it but the pictures say otherwise..! We both crave spending time outdoors and getting out to the wilderness as much as we can, therefore most of my ‘adventures’ are spent with him by my side.

I’ll be using this title for when we find time to do something outdoorsy and fun where I can get lots of snaps (which can prove to be pretty hard sometimes in between work/uni/college/his crazy American football training timetable etc.) The dream is to one day get a van and convert it so we can boost off to wherever whenever we get the chance! Until then we do what we can with what we’ve got.

We are huge fans of water sports such as SUP boarding (big ups to Saltbyrona for introducing this to us and letting us borrow equipment), kayaking, diving and love a hiking trip - preferably a bit of camping in there too. Since we are in Scotland we have to be prepared for whatever the weatherman throws at us so some trips need a bit of planning ahead if its going to be chucking it down outside - luckily for us Scots we are well adapted for the weather changing last minute. It is currently winter so most days are quite driech and dull but here’s hoping for some of those crisp winter sun occasions, probably my favourite kind of weather to photograph in.

If you are wanting to start getting out and doing some water sports one of my fave companies for buying gear is Two Bare Feet, they sell quality stuff for amazing prices so its definitely worth a look if you’re interested. Click right to scroll through these pics…

Camping is up there on my top 10 favourite things to do and its a great excuse to get out and put my camera to work. James and I have lots of plans to get away up North on some adventures - I will post all about and keep my blog updated on wherever we go and what we do.

Here are some pictures from when we went to Glen Coe in Summer. Keep in mind these are relatively old pictures but thought they would be well suited for my first post :)
